How to enter

youngwriters.jpgYour entry can be in the form of a short story, an interview, poem, a scene from a play.... as long as it is in English and it deals with the theme of friendship. No more than 1,000 words please.

Perhaps you could write a poem about a friend who has moved to a country or a play about the first meeting of two friends or a story about your ideal friend... It is completely up to you.

Entries can be submitted either digitally or by traditional post.

If you are using paper, please write on one side of the page only. This makes it easier to scan your entry to upload onto the website.

If you are sending a digital entry, please save as a Word file (not docx) and name the file ywc+your name. Pdfs are also acceptable, named ywc+your name.

A few rules
  • Entries must be in English and no more than 1,000 words long
  • You must be aged 6 to 18 to enter and you must be at school in the Netherlands
  • Prizes will be awarded in three age categories: 6-9, 10-13 and 14-18.
  • Each entry should be clearly labeled with the entrant's

Conditions
  • All winning entries and a selection of the best of the rest will be placed on the competition website, identified by first name, school and child's age only.
  • All entries will be donated to the Expat Archive in the Hague which is documenting the global social history of expatriate life..
  • The winning entries in each age category will be printed in The Xpat Journal's spring 2010 edition.
  • The judges' decision is final and there will be no correspondence with the judges' about their choices.
